Asbestos Floor Tile

Are you worried about asbestos floor tile? If so, you probably have nothing to be concerned about. Although this material is, indeed, harmful, it is usually ok if it is thoroughly contained.

For the most part, this hazardous material was used through the past few decades since it hardly every breaks down or corrodes. Due to the resiliency of this material, many construction workers and manufacturers used to line various products with it. However, many years later, scientist discovered that it is harmful to one’ s health, which cause a worldwide scare. If you have an older home, it is very possible that you may have asbestos floor tiles, though you should not start ripping them out just yet.

You see, any type of asbestos that is out in the open will be harmful to your health. However, those that are contained in enclosed spaces are generally harmless. In fact, should you begin to rip up those old tiles you could release this chemical into the air causing more harm than good. So, whether you remove them or not is up to you, though it is really not necessary. If you want to replace those older floors, you will need to be properly equipped to do so.

While it may make sense to hire a team of professionals to take out your existing flooring, if this is not an option make sure to clear the space entirely. This means removing all people and animals from your home while you are in the midst of renovating. Also, be sure to buy some proper face masks, so that you can protect your lungs from the asbestos floor tiles. Then, move quickly and surely through the floor by using a crowbar to peel of each one.

When you are through cleaning, be sure to keep everyone out of the home for at least one week. Then, replace the tiles with the new ones. After the new ones have had one week to settle, you can then move your family back into the space. Repeat this process every time that you think you may be dealing with this harmful chemical compound.

There is no need to panic concerning asbestos floor tile unless you are about to rip it up. If you are going to do some renovations, be sure to follow the procedure listed above.
