Floor Tile Grout
You can have the most beautiful marble floors in the world, but if you apply the wrong floor tile grout your space will be ruined in a flash.
When it comes to floor tile grout, there are numerous types to select from. While it is not a paver, it is important when it comes to your space. So, what is this mixture made of anyway? Well, this mix is usually a combination of cement materials mixed with other materials. It is used partly as an adhesive, but it is also used to fill in gaps between tiles. When you head to the store to buy yours, you will find that there are two types out there: sanded and un-sanded.
The sanded sort is used mostly for ceramic, stone, and any other type of tiles that include a 1/8 inch or larger gap. This type takes around 24 hours to dry, and it is usually mixed with water prior to application. While this type may seem like a good option, and it can be, there are a few problems associated with this mixture. This sort is extremely porous, which means that it will absorb just about anything if it is not sealed, so make sure that you add a sealant to this mixture if you are going to use it. Also, do not use sanded grout with marble, since it will scratch the marble causing damage.
The un-sanded type is usually referred to as “wall-grout,” and it is almost the same as the sanded type, though it does not include any particles of sand. This type is best for smooth surfaces such as marble, ceramic, and any type of polished rock. As with the sanded type, this sort should also be mixed with a sealant in order to avoid any absorption. Make sure that you use the right floor tile grout when you install your floor, or you may end up with a scratched surface.
Even if you have hired contractors to install your floors, make sure to ask them what sort of grout they are using. Believe it or not, those contractors that have never worked with polished rock often use the sanded kind when they should be using un-sanded. The more you know the more that you can be sure your floors will look perfect.
Generally, floor tile grout will be marked as to which type it is. Remember, never use the sanded kind when you are working with polished rock, and your floors will remain smooth for many years.
