Self Adhesive Vinyl Floor Tile

Are you thinking about installing self adhesive vinyl floor tile? If so, read this article before you start this project... it could save you some money!

Many people decide to install self adhesive vinyl floor tile due to the fact that it is relatively easy to place and it is also inexpensive. However, in order apply this type of material, you will have to make sure that your subfloor is completely smooth... and this is easier said than done. Any bumps of any kind will make it impossible for those tiles to stick, so make sure that you do not skip the smoothing process.

Any small imperfections can be patched with a wood filler or a floor levelling mixture. However, wallboard patching products will not be hard enough, so stick with a proper filler. Make sure to sand the area smooth and to clean up all dust prior to installation (use a heavy duty vacuum cleaner. Also, watch out for any seams that are already in the floor. If those seams move at all (and they will), your tiles will crack due to this movement. Due to all of these complications, it is best to go the extra mile and install some type of plywood subfloor to your existing surface.

Often, it can be tempting to simply rip up the old surface and slap some new self adhesive vinyl floor tiles right on top of it. However, unless you can be entirely sure that this area will be free of any bumps, blemishes, or small bits of dirt, your new floors will not stick. To avoid this potential hassle, simply install a proper subfloor. You can usually find large slats of plywood at any home improvement store, so start shopping around for the best possible material before you make a major mistake.

So, how can this article save you money? If you did not know about creating a perfectly smooth surface, you would have found yourself buying materials numerous times. Now that you know what to do, you can make sure it is done properly the first time around. In short, being prepared will always save you money.

Knowing about the complete project (any project) before tackling it can really save you a lot of grief. Not only will you avoid having to re-do your work over and over again, but you can be sure that going through the right step will keep your self adhesive vinyl floor tiles looking great.
